""step behind the screen of conventional behaviour and share the hope, the passion and the pain; the dark, sensual, inner world of dream and fantasy and longing""

“You were my warrior, my protector, my first love and I was your precious, virtuous princess. You set me on a pedestal – so high – so high! I was bound to fall! Did you catch me when I fell? No! You threw me to the ground! You wanted me to be a good girl but I became a woman. -  But then … then when love came I wasn’t ready. I held back! If only I knew then what I know now … But I escaped. I escaped you. I escaped up the aisle of a church… These are things I could never tell you because you think you know me, but you only know the unblemished statue of me that you have carved in your heart.”

In Letter to My Father choreographer Apple Yang invites the audience to step behind the screen of conventional behaviour and share the hope, the passion and the pain; the dark, sensual, inner world of dream and fantasy and longing.

Letter to My Father is a sharing of women’s experiences of love, a late-night conversation in an unmade bed, an opening up, a confession. It blurs the border between performer and audience, between the watcher and the watched, like the end of a party when some couples still dance amongst the entwined bodies of others; the choreography embraces everyone in the space.

Letter to My Father is accompanied by a score that combines the hot pulse of Classical Chinese and ArgentineTango and the bursting vitality of Contemporary , with the poignant lyricism of live music.
