Dep Arts strives to work with artists and companies across the UK and Europe. We are very proud to work with the National Dance Company Wales, who are based in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
The company has just finished their Spring 2011 tour of By Singing Light, Quixoteland and Romance Inverse, to much critical acclaim. Judith Mackrell recently wrote for the Guardian that, ‘this is an ideal work for NDCWale’s dancers – flattering their robust energy and individuality’
By Singing Light contains two kinds of dance material. Formal dancing with graceful rhythmic choreography that is rooted in a classic ‘Petronio dance language’ and more pedestrian, task-like movements where people are just being people, specifically, physically assisting others.

In Quixoteland, Ramírez uses the Minkus music creating an imagined landscape in which a collection of Cervantes-style characters such as townsfolk, priests and lovers mingle and compete for attention. Black comedy, farce and sheer entertainment reek through the dance, but at its heart, it’s an age-old tale of two young people who find themselves through the transformative power of their love for each other.
