Writers’ Guild Award winners Fifth Word are a UK touring company, based in the Midlands.  Fifth Word’s passion is for new writing and the use of multimedia technology to bring fresh, exciting work to audiences.

Artistic Directors Laura Ford and Angharad Jones formed Fifth Word in 2007 and have since produced and toured a number shows in the UK.  After their massive success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival their debut show Painkillers went on to tour regionally in the Midlands, supported by Arts Council England.

Laura and Angharad are zealous supporters of new writing and work closely with theatre writers and venues to find, commission and nurture new talent.  They regularly run showcase events such as Exposure and recently won the Encouragement of New Writing Award from the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain.

The duo have an enviable track record in the field that includes directing Nottingham Playhouse’s youth theatre and adjudicating at international theatre festivals in Romania.  In addition, Angharad was recently Assistant Director for Nottingham Playhouse’s main stage production of The Trial adapted by Steven Berkoff and a panel member for Theatre Writing Partnership’s young writers’ programme.
